We are seeking a Press Secretary for Concerned Veterans for America (CVA) who is passionate about advancing veterans’ interests and the cause of freedom, through relations with the media and the broader public. CVA is the premier grassroots group focused on improving the lives of veterans through VA reforms, and connecting them with policymakers who can advance the freedoms they fought to protect for each and every American.

The ideal candidate will have several years of press experience, the ability to quickly grasp policy, a dedication to the cause freedom and prosperity, and the tenacity to challenge our strategy and improve it.

  • Foster relationships with national and regional reporters who have an emphasis on military, veteran, and defense issues.
  • Write press releases and media advisories; conceive and source research documents from internal policy partners. Pitch relevant documents to media and publish to organization’s website.
  • Manage outreach relationships with TV and radio personalities, news directors, producers, and bookers to secure bookings and drive coverage.
  • Monitor daily news clips on key issues for use in op-eds, social media, research documents, or policy analyses.
  • Lead media training opportunities for CVA spokespeople around the country
  • Contribute to CVA’s overall communications strategy with innovative ideas for press-facing products, public events, pitching opportunities, etc.


  • A bachelor’s degree in communications, journalism, or related field is preferred
  • 3-5 years of experience in communications, media, and/or public relations is preferred
  • Background with either Veterans’ advocacy or DOD/DVA preferred
  • Comfortable building new relationships with reporters and producers
  • Possess strong oral and written communication skills
  • Detail-oriented, organized, and committed to excellence
  • Familiar with mainstream and digital outlets both nationally and locally
  • Willing to work flexible hours to support the news cycle and organizational events. Some travel will be required
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment with sometimes changing priorities
  • An understanding of free market principles and a passion for advancing the mission of the organization is required
